T-Type Metal-Braid Shielded Teflon Thermocouple Cable 2x0.22 mm²

T-Type Metal-Braid Shielded Teflon Thermocouple Cable 2x0.22 mm² is a shielded thermocouple connection cable used to transmit the low-level temperature measurement signal from T-Type thermocouple sensors to a controller, indicator, data logger, PLC, or automation system.

The cable consists of two stranded T-Type measurement cores, Teflon core insulation, a metal braided shield, and a Teflon outer construction. Each measurement core consists of 7 wires, each 0.20 mm in diameter, and has a nominal conductor cross-sectional area of approximately 0.22 mm².

The metal braided shield helps reduce the effect of motors, inverters, contactors, relays, power cables, and similar electrical noise sources on the thermocouple measurement signal. This model has no separate drain wire. When a shield connection is required, the metal braid must be terminated appropriately.

The product is not a standard power cable. It should be used for signal transmission in T-Type thermocouple measurement circuits. For accurate measurement, red positive (+) and white negative (-) core polarity must be maintained throughout the connection.

Cable Construction with Teflon Insulation and a Metal Braided Shield

The positive and negative measurement cores are separated by Teflon insulation. The Teflon construction is preferred for thermocouple connections that require temperature resistance, electrical insulation, a low-friction surface, and compatibility with industrial environments.

The metal braid around the measurement cores forms the electrical shield layer of the cable. This shield helps reduce the coupling of electromagnetic and electrostatic effects occurring in the external environment to the measurement cores.

The main function of the metal braid is electrical shielding. Although the braid structure can provide some physical support to the cable, it should not be considered heavy-duty mechanical armor or a steel protective braid.

Metal-Braid Shielded Construction Without a Drain Wire

This product has a metal braided shield surrounding the measurement cores but no separate drain wire. The metal braided shield and drain wire are different cable components.

Metal braided shieldis the conductive layer surrounding the positive and negative measurement cores. It helps reduce the effect of external electrical interference on the thermocouple signal.

Drain wireis a separate conductor in some shielded cables that is in contact with the metal braid and facilitates the connection of the shield to the terminal. Since there is no drain wire in this model, the shield connection must be prepared through the metal braid itself.

Cable Component Primary Function Connection
Red measurement core Carries the positive side of the T-Type thermocouple signal. Connects to the device's T-Type positive (+) terminal.
White measurement core Carries the negative side of the T-Type thermocouple signal. Connects to the device's T-Type negative (-) terminal.
Metal braided shield It helps reduce the effect of electrical interference on the measurement line. When necessary, it is terminated at the appropriate shield, chassis or ground terminal.
Teflon outer construction It separates the measurement cores and the metal braided shield from the external environment. It is not an electrical connection component.

About JIS Color Coding

This T-Type thermocouple cable uses JIS color coding to identify the cores and their polarity. In a T-Type thermocouple circuit using the JIS color scheme, the red core indicates the positive (+)and the white core indicates the negative (-) connection.

  • Positive core (+): Red
  • Positive conductor: Copper (Cu)
  • Negative core (-): White
  • Negative conductor: Constantan/CuNi
  • Color code system: JIS

The stripped conductor of the red positive core appears copper-coloured. The Constantan/CuNi conductor used in the white negative core has a gray or silver appearance. The difference in appearance between conductors arises from the metal alloys used.

Thermocouple cables have different color coding systems such as JIS, IEC and ANSI. The same T-Type cable can be produced with different core colors depending on the standard used. When making connections, the process should not be based solely on cable color. The thermocouple type, polarity markings and device terminal diagram should be checked together.

The JIS color scheme must not be confused with ANSI. In ANSI T-Type cables, the positive core may use a different color, and the red core generally indicates the negative connection. For this product, the JIS scheme specified by the manufacturer must be followed: the red core connects to the positive terminal and the white core to the negative terminal.

Manufacturer's Temperature Information

The manufacturer's product information specifies a temperature of 200°C for the cable. This value must be evaluated together with the cable's Teflon insulation, metal braided shield, and outer construction.

The specified value 200°C does not represent the total temperature measurement range of the T-Type thermocouple sensor. It is the manufacturer's information given for the environment where the cable is located and the connection route. In practice, continuous operating time, connection points, mechanical movement and installation conditions must also be evaluated.

How Does It Help Reduce Electrical Interference?

Thermocouple sensors produce a low-level voltage signal. This signal may be affected by electrical noise from motors, inverters, contactors, relays, heating-element control systems, and power cables.

The metal braided shield forms a conductive layer around the positive and negative measurement cores and helps reduce external electrical effects reaching the measurement circuit. The product may therefore be preferred in machine, control-panel, and automation applications with electrical interference.

The metal braided shield does not completely eliminate electrical interference. Shielding performance depends on the cable route, shield termination, grounding arrangement, device-input configuration, and level of electrical noise in the environment.

Connection and Shield-Termination Notes

In the T-Type thermocouple circuit, the red conductor should be connected to the positive (+) terminal of the device and the white conductor should be connected to the negative (-) terminal. Reverse polarity may cause the temperature change to be displayed in the wrong direction or cause an incorrect measurement result.

The metal braided shield should not be connected to the positive or negative thermocouple terminal. If a shield connection is required, the braid should be carefully assembled and terminated at the shield, chassis or ground terminal specified by the device manufacturer.

Because this model has no separate drain wire, a suitable connection end may need to be prepared from the braid so that it can be connected to a terminal. The braid wires must not contact the positive or negative measurement cores.

It is preferred for the shield to be terminated from a single point on the device or panel side in most measurement applications. However, the exact connection method must be determined according to the terminal diagram of the device manufacturer and the EMC/grounding project of the facility.

The cable should not be run parallel to power cables for long distances in the same channel. Separating power and measurement cables as much as possible supports shielding performance and measurement stability.

Is the Metal Braided Shield Mechanical Armor?

No. The main function of the metal braid in this product is electrical shielding. Although it may provide some physical support to the cable, it should not be used as heavy-duty mechanical armor against crushing, cutting, pulling or intense friction.

In areas with a risk of mechanical impact or abrasion, the cable must also be routed through flexible conduit, protective tubing, or a suitable cable duct.

How to Choose the Correct T-Type Cable?

When choosing a cable, thermocouple type, thermoelement alloy, color code, core cross-section, conductor structure, insulation material, shield requirement, ambient temperature and the device to be connected should be evaluated together.

This product is suitable for T-Type Cu/CuNi thermocouple measurement circuits. It should not be used in K, J, E, N, R or S-Type thermocouple circuits. Using a different thermocouple type may cause measurement deviation and connection mismatch.

An unshielded cable may be sufficient for electrically quiet, short measurement circuits. A metal-braid shielded construction may be preferred in applications containing motors, inverters, contactors, and power cables.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Standard Does This Cable's Color Code Follow?

The product uses JIS color coding. In the T-Type JIS scheme, the red core indicates the positive (+) connection and the white core the negative (-) connection.

Is the red core positive?

Yes. In the JIS color scheme of this product, the red wire is used for positive (+) and the white wire is used for negative (-) connection. Since the color-polarity pattern may vary in cables of different standards, the device connection diagram should also be checked.

Is it normal for the red core to appear copper?

Yes. The positive conductor of the T-Type thermocouple cable is copper. Therefore, it is normal for the conductor to appear copper-colored when the red core is stripped.

Why is the conductor of the white core gray?

Constantan or CuNi alloy is used in the white negative core. This conductor appears gray or silver, not red like pure copper.

Are the Metal Braided Shield and Drain Wire the Same Thing?

No. The metal braided shield is the shield layer surrounding the measurement cores. The drain wire is a separate conductor that facilitates the connection of the shield to the terminal. This model has a metal braided shield but no separate drain wire.

Can the Shield Be Connected Without a Drain Wire?

Yes. The metal braid can be collected appropriately and connected to the shield, chassis or grounding terminal. Care should be taken to ensure that the braid does not come into contact with the measurement cores and that the connection is made in accordance with the device diagram.

What Does 2x0.22 mm² Mean?

It indicates that the cable has two measurement cores, each with a nominal conductor cross-sectional area of approximately 0.22 mm².

What Does 7x0.20 mm Mean?

It means that each measurement core consists of 7 thin wires, each 0.20 mm in diameter. This stranded construction makes the cable easier to shape.

Does this cable completely prevent electrical interference?

No. The metal braided shield helps reduce the effect of electrical noise on the measurement circuit. The result depends on the cable route, shield connection, grounding arrangement, and level of interference in the environment.

At what temperature can this cable be used?

The manufacturer's information specifies a cable temperature of 200°C. This value refers to the manufacturer's information about the cable's operating environment, not the total measurement range of the T-Type thermocouple sensor.

Can this cable be used for power supply?

No. The product is used to transmit T-Type thermocouple measurement signals. It must not be used to power a motor, heating element, heater, or any other power load.
