K-Type NiCr-Ni Mono Steel-Braided Thermocouple Cable 2x0.50 mm²

K-Type NiCr-Ni Mono thermocouple cable 2x0.50 mm² is used to transmit the thermoelectric signal generated by a K-Type thermocouple sensor to a temperature measuring instrument, controller, display, data logger, PLC thermocouple input, or control panel.

Two-core cable is prepared for industrial temperature measurement connections with its monoconductor structure, fiberglass insulation and steel braid on the outside. Steel braid helps protect the cable body against friction and surface mechanical effects.

The product's yellow and red core colors follow the ANSI color scheme used for K-Type thermocouples. In K-Type connection, yellow wire represents positive polarity and red wire represents negative polarity. During connection, polarity must be maintained from the sensor to the measuring instrument.

This product is not a power supply cable. Only It should be used in K-Type thermocouple measurement circuits. In the measurement system, the sensor type, cable type, connector and device input must be compatible with each other.

Mono Conductor, Fiberglass Insulation, and Steel-Braid Construction

The product has a two-core mono conductor structure. The designation 2x0.50 mm² indicates that the cable consists of two cores and each core has a nominal conductor cross-section of 0.50 mm².

Fiberglass insulation around the cores helps maintain electrical insulation in fixed sensor and device connections where temperature effects are present. The fiberglass structure must be protected from sharp bends, crushing and operations that may damage the fiber structure during assembly.

The steel braid on the outside creates a mechanical protection layer around the cable. It provides additional protection against friction and light mechanical effects in the machine body, panel passage and cable routes with surface contact.

The main function of the steel braid is mechanical protection. In applications where it is planned to be used as an electrical shield, the electrical continuity of the braid, coverage rate, connection method and device manufacturer's instructions should also be evaluated.

ANSI Color-Coded Core Structure

  • Positive core: Yellow
  • Negative core: Red
  • Color scheme: ANSI color code for K-Type thermocouple

Core colors make it easier to distinguish polarity during connection. However, before installation, positive-negative signs on the sensor, cable and device terminals should be checked. Color code alone does not indicate that the product is certified to a particular standard.

Material and Durability Properties

Fiberglass insulation is a preferred construction for industrial thermocouple connections exposed to heat. However, the cable's exact operating temperature must not be determined solely from its fiberglass insulation.

Temperature limits of conductor construction, insulation, outer braid, terminal, connector and connection points should be evaluated together. For the exact operating temperature, the manufacturer's technical data sheet should be used as the basis.

The steel braid is not a sealed outer sheath. In environments where there is moisture, liquid, oil, chemicals or dense dust, the cable's compliance with environmental conditions should also be checked.

The cable should not be subjected to excessive pulling force, crushing, sharp edges or repeated bending. Steel braid helps with mechanical protection, but does not provide unlimited protection against heavy mechanical loads.

Connection and Usage Notes

In the K-Type thermocouple connection, the yellow wire should be connected to the positive terminal and the red wire should be connected to the negative terminal. The terminal markings of the sensor, cable, connector and measuring instrument must be checked before connection.

Reverse polarity may cause the measurement value to change in the wrong direction or the device to display incorrect values as the temperature rises. The same polarity pattern must be maintained throughout the connection.

Thermocouple cable, terminal and thermocouple connector compatible with K-Type must be used in the K-Type measurement circuit. Using standard copper cable or cable of a different thermocouple type may create inappropriate metal connections in the measurement line.

While preparing the cable end, care should be taken to ensure that the steel braid wires do not come into contact with the thermoelement conductors or device terminals. The shield must be properly removed and the connection area must be isolated in accordance with the application.

Thermocouple cable should be routed as far as possible from motor supply lines, inverter outputs, contactor lines and high-current power cables.

Cable Length Options

The product is available in cable lengths of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 meters. When ordering, the length suitable for the installation route is selected using the Cable Length must be selected from the field.

Each cable length has a separate product code and variant barcode. Variant information is shown in the table below.

How to Choose the Correct Cable Length?

When determining the cable length, the actual route between the sensor and the measuring instrument, the distance inside the panel, the turning points and the mounting allowance required for the terminal connection should be taken into account.

An excessively short cable may create tensile stress at the connection points. If the cable is longer than necessary, it may cause unnecessary cable accumulation in the panel or machine. The length closest to the actual route of the application should be selected.
