K-Type OMEGA Fiberglass-Braid Insulated Thermocouple Cable 24 AWG is a thermocouple-grade measurement cable used to transmit the temperature signal from a sensor to a temperature controller, indicator, data logger, PLC, or automation system in K-Type thermocouple measurement circuits.
OMEGA GG-K-24 model consists of two 24 AWG solid thermoelements, fiberglass-braid core insulation, and a fiberglass-braid outer construction. Its thin, high-temperature-resistant construction is suitable for laboratory, testing, furnace, heating-element, and industrial temperature measurement applications.
The product is manufactured from thermoelement alloys suitable for the K-Type thermocouple measurement system. Under the ANSI color code, the yellow core indicates the positive (+)and the red core indicates the negative (-) connection.
This model has no metal braided shield, foil shield, or drain wire. In areas near motors, inverters, and power cables with high levels of electrical interference, the cable route must be planned separately, or a shielded thermocouple cable should be considered.
In the GG-K-24 model, both thermoelements have a solid-conductor construction. The 24 AWG conductor size corresponds to a conductor diameter of approximately 0.51 mm and a geometric cross-sectional area of approximately 0.20 mm².
The value 2x0.50 mm² must not be used as the product size. The approximate 0.5 mm value in the OMEGA product description refers to the diameter of each solid conductor.
Its solid conductor structure provides regular and compact connection in fixed temperature measurement lines. However, it is more sensitive to repeated bending and continuous motion loads than stranded cables. If the cable is to be used in mobile applications, the connection points must be fixed and protected from mechanical tension.
The positive and negative thermoelements are each surrounded by fiberglass braid insulation. There is also a fiberglass braid outer construction on the two insulated cores.
Fiberglass braid provides electrical insulation and basic physical protection in high-temperature thermocouple connections. The flexible braid structure makes it easy to route the cable between sensor and device connections.
OMEGA's technical data specifies the maximum temperature for GG-series fiberglass insulation as 482°C . This value applies to the insulation system; it should not be interpreted as the thermocouple sensor's total measurement range or as the definitive continuous operating temperature of the entire connection system.
Fiberglass braid is not a liquid-tight outer sheath. The cable must be protected from intense moisture, oil, chemical splashes, sharp edges, abrasive surfaces and direct flame contact.
K-Type thermocouple cable consists of positive and negative alloys with different thermoelectric properties. In its trade terminology, OMEGA identifies this K-Type alloy pair as CHROMEGA™ / ALOMEGA™ .
The cable must be used with a K-Type thermocouple sensor, connector and measuring instrument. The use of cables and connectors of J, T, E, N, R, S or different thermocouple types may cause measurement deviation.
In the OMEGA GG-K-24 cable, the ANSI color coding indicates positive polarity with the yellow core and negative polarity with the red core.
In the ANSI system, red color indicates the negative thermocouple core. This point should not be confused with IEC color-coded K-Type cables. The IEC system uses a green positive and white negative color scheme for K-Type.
During connection, no action should be taken based solely on the visible color. The product model, thermocouple type, polarity markings and device terminal diagram should be checked together.
For GG-series fiberglass insulation, OMEGA's technical table specifies a maximum temperature of 482°C for the cable's insulation construction.
Usable temperature in actual application may be lower depending on the connection terminal, connector, measurement junction, ambient atmosphere, mechanical load, operating time and the way the cable contacts the hot surface.
If the product is planned to be used close to the high temperature limit, the OMEGA technical data sheet, connection components and the installation conditions of the application should be evaluated together.
The yellow positive core must be connected to the K-Type positive (+) terminal of the temperature controller, and the red negative core to the K-Type negative (-) terminal.
Reverse polarity may cause the measured value to decrease as the temperature rises or the temperature change to be displayed in the wrong direction.
A K-Type-compatible thermocouple connector, terminal, and connection component must be used. Intermediate connection components for other thermocouple types may introduce additional thermoelectric voltage and measurement error into the measurement circuit.
Solid thermoelements are not designed for continuous bending. The cable should be fixed at the section closest to the connection points and the terminal ends should be prevented from carrying mechanical load.
The cable must be protected from sharp edges, crushing, pulling and intense vibration. Protective spirals, pipes or cable channels should be used on routes with mechanical risk.
Fiberglass braid is not waterproof. Appropriate external protection should be applied in environments with intense moisture, oil and chemical splashes.
This product is not a power-supply cable. It must not be used to power a motor, heating element, heater, or any other electrical load.
The GG-K-24 model does not have a metal braided shield, foil shield or drain wire. Fiberglass braid is not an electrical shield but a layer of insulation and basic physical protection.
The unshielded structure can be used on measurement routes that are electrically quiet, short and separated from power lines. Shielded K-Type thermocouple cable should be considered in applications near motors, inverters, contactors and high-current power cables.
GG-K-24is OMEGA's standard K-Type fiberglass braided thermocouple cable.
GG-K-24-SLE is the special-tolerance version known as Special Limits of Error. Because this product's model code does not contain the SLE designation, it must not be described as the special-tolerance model.
GG-K-24 is made from K-Type thermoelements. With suitable welding, measurement-junction, and insulation methods, it can also be used to manufacture K-Type thermocouple sensors.
In sensor manufacturing, the measuring-junction size, weld quality, connection insulation, and mechanical protection affect measurement accuracy and response time. The manufacturer's tolerance information must be used as the basis for applications requiring calibration or class verification.
When choosing a cable, thermocouple type, conductor diameter, insulation material, ambient temperature, mechanical movement, electrical interference level and the device to be connected should be evaluated together.
If high temperature and fixed installation are priorities, the fiberglass-braid GG-K-24 cable may be considered. Stranded cables may be preferred for applications requiring continuous movement, while cables with suitable fluoropolymer outer sheaths may be preferred in humid or chemical environments.
The product is suitable for K-Type thermocouple measurement circuits and K-Type thermocouple sensor applications.
