K-Type (NiCr-Ni) Steel-Braided Extension Cable 2x1.50 mm²

K-Type (NiCr-Ni) steel-braided Extension Cable 2x1.50 mm² is a thermocouple extension cable used to transmit the temperature measurement signal received from K-Type thermocouple sensors to the controller, indicator, data logger, PLC or automation system.

The two-core cable has a cross-sectional area of 2x1.50 mm² and combines silicone and fiberglass insulation structure with a steel braid. Silicone and fiberglass layers support the cable's compliance with industrial working conditions. The steel braid provides additional protection against friction, abrasion and external mechanical effects.

This product is not a standard power cable. It should be used to extend a K-Type thermocouple measurement circuit with a suitable thermoelement construction. For accurate measurement, the cable must be compatible with the K-Type thermocouple, and core polarity must be maintained throughout the connection.

Cable Construction with Silicone, Fiberglass, and Steel Braid

Silicone insulation provides a flexible structure that makes it easy to use the cable in the connection between the sensor and the measuring instrument. The fiberglass layer supports the physical and thermal resistance of the cable in industrial applications.

The steel braid surrounding the cable reduces direct exposure of the inner conductors and insulation layers to external influences. This structure provides mechanical protection advantage in applications where the cable is passed through machine surfaces, metal bodies or transition points where friction may occur.

If the steel braid is planned to be used as an electrical shield, the shield connection and grounding arrangement must be made in accordance with the electrical project of the application. Improper or multiple-point connections may cause undesirable ground loops in some systems.

About IEC Color Coding

This K-Type (NiCr-Ni) thermocouple extension cable uses green-white color coding to distinguish its cores. Under IEC 60584-3 color coding, in a K-Type thermocouple circuit, the green core indicates the positive (+)and the white core indicates the negative (-) connection.

Thermocouple cables may have different color code systems such as IEC, ANSI and JIS. Therefore, the same K-Type thermocouple cable can be produced with different core and outer sheath colors depending on the standard used. In product selection, the color code standard used in the current system should also be taken into consideration along with the thermocouple type.

There is no difference in measurement principle between the green-and-white color-coded K-Type thermocouple cable and other K-Type cables that use different color standards. The K-Type NiCr-Ni thermocouple circuit operates on the same principle; the difference is the colors used to identify the positive and negative cores.

Color coding allows the cores to be tracked more easily during installation, maintenance and fault detection. However, when connecting to an old installation or a system with a different color standard, the process should not be based solely on the core color. The thermocouple type, polarity markings and device terminal diagram should be checked together.

Benefits of the K-Type Extension Cable

K-Type thermocouple extension cable allows the measurement line to be extended using a cable compatible with K-Type in applications where the existing connection cable of the sensor does not reach the measuring instrument. This ensures cable type compatibility in the circuit between the thermocouple sensor and the measuring instrument.

2x1.50 mm² conductor cross-section. It can be preferred in industrial applications where connection strength, mechanical strength and the use of higher cross-section cables are required. When selecting the cable cross-section, the controller terminal, connector size, wiring distance and mounting area should be evaluated together.

Silicone and fiberglass insulation structure supports the use of temperature measurement lines around machinery, ovens and production systems. When determining the exact operating temperature of the cable, the manufacturer's technical data and the ambient conditions in the application should be used as the basis.

Steel braid outer construction helps protect inner insulation layers on cabling routes where movement, friction and physical contact are possible.

Easy separation of green and white wires makes it easier to check polarity during connection. This feature helps track cable cores faster during installation, maintenance and commissioning processes.

Material and Durability Properties

While silicone insulation supports the flexibility of the cable, the fiberglass layer provides additional physical and thermal support against industrial use conditions. The steel braid creates a mechanical protective layer on the outer surface of the cable.

Steel braid helps reduce friction, surface contact and similar external mechanical effects from directly reaching the inner insulation layers. For this reason, it can be preferred around machinery, metal surfaces and cable routes where there is a possibility of physical contact.

When determining the actual usage conditions of the cable, not only the insulation material should be taken into account. Ambient temperature, movement status, chemical contact, humidity, cabling route, connection points and the terminal or connector used should be evaluated together.

Connection and Usage Notes

In the K-Type thermocouple circuit, the positive and negative conductors must be connected to the correct terminals. In this product green core indicates the positive (+)and the white core indicates the negative (-) connection.

Reverse polarity may cause the measurement value to change in the wrong direction or the indicator to decrease as the temperature rises. The positive and negative terminal markings of the controller or indicator should be checked before connection.

When making the connection, use an extension cable, connector, and terminal compatible with K-Type. The use of cables of different thermocouple types or unsuitable connectors may cause measurement deviation.

The cable must be protected from sharp edges, crush points and direct flame contact. When determining the installation method, ambient temperature, cabling route, movement status and terminal structure of the device to be used should be evaluated together.

If the steel braid is to be electrically connected, the grounding arrangement must be established in accordance with the electrical project of the application. Improper connections can cause undesirable ground loops in some systems.

How to Choose the Correct K-Type Extension Cable?

When choosing a K-Type extension cable, thermocouple type, thermoelement compatibility, core cross-section, insulation structure, cable length, color code standard, installation route and environmental conditions should be evaluated together.

This product is suitable for K-Type (NiCr-Ni) thermocouple measurement circuits. In J, T, N, R, S or different types of thermocouple circuits, cables suitable for the relevant thermocouple type must be used.

Steel braid structure may be preferred in applications where the cable may experience movement, friction or mechanical contact. In narrow terminal areas, the physical compatibility of the 2x1.50 mm² cross-section with the terminal and connector to be used should be checked.
